Planning Near Pipelines discussion list
Large fuel transmission pipelines carrying hazardous liquids and natural gas are normally placed as far away from populated areas as possible. Yet as our communities grow, residential and commercial development often is proposed within the potential impact zones where if something was to go wrong with one of these pipelines people could be at serious risk. The operation and maintenance of these pipelines is regulated by federal and state agencies which has greatly reduced the chance of pipeline failures. While the chance of a pipeline failure is very small the consequence of such a failure can be huge if too near housing and businesses. Local government controls land use near pipelines, but very few local governments have considered such protections. This group is dedicated to sharing discussion and examples of, news stories about, and best planning practices for local government to protect their citizens near pipelines.

LNG discussion list
This group is dedicated to sharing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) safety and siting information among over 300 community activists, local government officials, industry experts, and regulators nationwide. It is our hope that through this sharing, initiatives that will make LNG facilities safer will be adopted, and that citizens will be given a larger role in the oversight of LNG safety and siting nationwide.

With the current rush to site LNG facilities such shared information, (including the best available science, technologies, and risk assessment), is needed for communities to make well informed decisions about these potentially dangerous facilities being proposed in their midst.
