Examples of Pipeline Setback Ordinances
In 2010 Whatcom County, Washington adopted a comprehensive pipeline safety ordiance that included restriction on building hard to evacuate buildings (hospitals, schools, nursing homes, etc) within 500 feet of a transmission pipeline, a consultation required for other building, and proff of the use of One Call. Model Washington State Setback Ordinance
In 2000 the Washington State Legislature passed new pipeline safety laws to ensure greater safety of the citizens of Washington State. Part of that new law included a directive to the Washington Municipal Research and Services Center to draft a model setback ordinance for local governments. To review that ordinance click here
